Ebola has come a step closer to arriving in the UK after a Spanish woman became the first person in Europe to contract the disease.
She is being treated in a hospital in Madrid and is the first person known to have contracted the disease outside Western Africa.
It is believed that she contracted the disease when treating to Spanish missionaries who died after being flown back to Europe.
The 40-year-old’s identity has not been released but she was among a team of 30 staff treating priests Manuel Garcia Viejo and Miguel Pajares.
She went into Mr Viejo’s room twice before and after he died on September 25 before going on holiday.
She fell ill five days later and was tested positively for Ebola at a hospital in Madrid.
Her family and medical team are being monitored for the disease but authorities have not revealed where she went on holiday.
Spanish newspaper El Pais claimed that her clothing was only level two biological security which is not waterproof and does not allow for ventilation.
